ABOUT US
Matta Law is a Los Angeles-based employment law firm dedicated to protecting the rights of employees who have experienced wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or wage and hour violations. We also guide executives and other high-level professionals through the negotiation of employment and severance agreements, helping them protect their interests at pivotal career moments. Our practice is built on the belief that every worker, regardless of title or paycheck, deserves a lawyer who will fight as hard for them as the largest companies fight for themselves.
Matta Law was founded to bring big-firm skill and strategy to individual employees, without the impersonal feel of a large law firm. Clients work directly with an attorney who knows their case inside and out, who has sat on both sides of the negotiating table, and who is genuinely invested in the outcome. Whether resolving a dispute quietly or taking a case all the way through litigation, our goal is the same: real results, delivered with the attention every client deserves.
MIKE MATTA
Mike didn’t set out to spend his career defending corporations. He started practicing law representing employees who had been wronged at work, and that experience shaped everything about how he practices law today.
Mike earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where he specialized in Critical Race Studies, a program that examines how the law intersects with race, power, and inequality. That perspective has never left him. It’s part of why he spent his career focusing exclusively on employment law: few areas of practice put questions of power, fairness, and dignity on more direct display than the relationship between an employer and the people who work for it.
Over the years, Mike has represented employees at every level, from hourly workers to company executives, and spent time on the defense side at two national law firms, giving him a rare, first-hand understanding of how employers build their cases and defend their conduct. He brings all of that experience back to representing people. Outside the office, Mike serves on the Board of Governors for the Arab-American Lawyers Association of Southern California and previously for the LGBTQ+ Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, work that reflects a broader commitment to civil rights that runs through everything he does.
WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
WE SPENT YEARS REPRESENTING WORKERS
Mike spent several years exclusively representing employees, handling everything from case intake through mediation, settlement, and trial preparation. That experience means we don't approach your case as an academic exercise. We know what it's like to sit across from a client who has just been fired, and we know how to build the kind of case that gets results.
WE LISTEN AND CONVINCE THE JUDGE
Clients who work with Mike find a lawyer who listens first and litigates hard. He believes representation should feel personal, because it is. Losing a job, facing harassment, or being pushed out of a role you built your career on is never just a legal issue. It is a disruption to your life, and Mike treats it that way. At the same time, when it's time to advocate, he doesn't hold back. Zealous representation isn't a slogan for Mike; it's a standard he holds himself to in every negotiation, every filing, and every case.
WE KNOW HOW BIG FIRMS OPERATE BECAUSE WE CAME FROM ONE
Mike spent years at large, national and international defense-side firms, representing employers in the very same kinds of disputes we now bring on behalf of employees. That means we know how the other side thinks: how they evaluate exposure, how they prepare their defenses, and how they approach negotiation and litigation. When we take on your case, that insider's view works entirely in your favor
WE NAVIGATE COMPLEX ISSUES FOR EXECUTIVES
Not every employment dispute looks the same, and the stakes for a senior executive negotiating an exit or a severance package are different from those in a typical wrongful termination case. Mike has represented executive-level employees in exactly these situations, negotiating and drafting employment and severance agreements and handling high-stakes, single-plaintiff disputes. Whether you're an hourly worker or a company executive, you get the same level of strategic, sophisticated representation.
